Avoid the most congested stretches with these local shortcuts
Coming & going to The Joy through Uptown
Coming to The Joy from West Sedona
Take Forest Rd to skip a lot of the traffic. You'll come to the light at Uptown where you go left to The Joy.
Leaving The Joy toward West Sedona
To skip Uptown traffic, turn onto Owenby Rd and wind through the side streets to Forest Rd through the neighborhood. This cuts back to 89A past the congestion.
Sedona's busiest times are March, April, October, November and the Christmas & New Year's season. Use these local shortcuts to avoid the worst congestion.
Village of Oak Creek → West Sedona (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
Avoid heading toward West Sedona on SR 179 from the Village of Oak Creek or Chapel area mid-day.
Mariposa Hill on 89A (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
The stretch of 89A from West Sedona toward the "Y" backs up badly in the late afternoon.
Our suggestion: plan afternoon activities in West Sedona or along 89A north that take you into the evening.
